Raincity: Murals and Umbrellas
March 12, 2018
Here in Vancouver, we are used to it rainy spontaneously at any given time, even in the summer; this is why people jokingly refer to us as “Raincouver”. Another thing you will notice if you visit our city is that it is thriving with Murals. Watch out Austin and LA, you haven’t seen cool murals until you have visited Vancouver.
I plan on doing a whole other blog post which lists for you some of the best spots in the city to grab some pictures of them. Every year in Vancouver, different businesses around the city will pay various artists in the city to come and do a mural installation on their building, or shop. You can find out about some of the most recent ones from 2017 by visiting Vancouver Mural Festival
Until then I wanted to share with you some of my favourite photos from the recent umbrella shoot we did in front of a Mural here in Vancouver created by Kristofir Dean
If you’re anything like me, having a good umbrella is essential especially if you live in a city where it rains often enough. I can’t describe how many umbrellas I have owned of various prices that have broken down either within the first month or year I’ve owned them.
I came across these duck umbrellas about 7 years ago when I was at American Apparel (RIP). I ended up buying the yellow one, and have had it for the full 7 years, and it has not failed me. It was only recently when I was thinking about getting a new umbrella, mainly to change it up, I thought of getting these adorable guys in for our shop.
This mural couldn’t have been a more complimentary backdrop for the umbrellas (the irony of shooting these photos on a sunny day wasn’t lost on us either!).
You can check out these umbrellas here, they come in 10 wonderful colours.
